The Clear Lake Queen was the dream of Harvey and Roberta Welter. While
sitting on their deck that overlooks Clear Lake and drinking a Mountain
Dew, they admired the beauty of the lake and saw that there was only one
boat on the water. Roberta turned to Harvey and said, " You know, what
this lake needs to bring in the tourists is a Paddle Wheel boat." Harvey
absent mindedly said, "Yeah."
As the story is told by Harvey, "She kept bringing up the idea of the
Paddle Boat and I finally realized she meant that WE should do it."
The "Queen" was designed by Harvey with input by Roberta. They had it
engineered and manufactured in Florida as they couldn't find someone on
the West Coast to do it. It was shipped by four trucks to Lakeport, CA,
where the many pieces were fashioned into a large hulk. The gingerbread
railing was chosen by Harvey and is the highlight of the exterior.
Roberta chose the interior colors and the combined effort has produced
an extravagant looking Paddle Wheel boat of years past.
